Crowned as the Sony Ericsson Fan Reporter through a national contest, I won with a one-minute video and strategic social media campaign. This led to launching a personal project, creating a blog to showcase the human face of the South Africa 2010 World Cup through stories and photos.
Along with my partner, Alfredo de Isla, we traveled extensively across South Africa, documenting the Spanish National Team's journey and sharing updates on the blog and social media. Sponsorships supported our project, enabling us to create a dedicated website and an engaging online presence.
Upon returning, we organized a successful exhibition of our best photographs, which toured several Spanish cities. A highlight was the Valladolid exhibition, attended by Spanish National Team coach Vicente del Bosque.
As the Sony Ericsson Fan Reporter, I fully immersed myself in the World Cup experience, capturing and sharing compelling stories and visuals with a wide audience.
Our journey began in February 2010 when we entered a Sony Ericsson contest to become their fan reporter for the South Africa 2010 World Cup. We created a one-minute video (viewable below) and developed a blog and social media strategy to support our candidacy. This effort led to the formation of a local community of "Dreamers" and gained visibility with support from well-known athletes and comedians. It was a total success and, finally, we were crowned as the Fan Reporter.
The prize was a four-day trip to a match in Pretoria, South Africa, but we wanted more. We expanded our vision into a one-month project, secured sponsors, and adjusted our plans to follow the Spanish National Team until they lifted the trophy. Our journey showcased the human side of the World Cup through our narratives and photographs. Below are some of the highlights.
Upon our return, our story captured media attention, compelling us to share our South African experiences. We secured additional sponsors and launched a traveling exhibition of our photos. The exhibition was inaugurated in our hometown by notable personalities, including Spanish National Team Coach Vicente del Bosque.
